Recently we observed two patients with rheumatoid arthritis who developed pleural effusions thought to be rheumatoid in origin; one patient also developed a pericardial effusion. We would like to compare these cases with others in the literature and to present our observations on the occurrence of "rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cells," positive latex fixation titers, low glucose concentration, and elevated lactic acid dehydrogenase levels in the effusions and to report a needle pleural biopsy with histology similar to a rheumatoid nodule.Case ReportsCASE 1A 63-year-old white man was...References1.
