On the Numerical Treatment and Dependence of the Third Dredge‐up Phenomenon

Abstract

We present results of an investigation into the behavior of the base of the convective envelope of models of asymptotic giant branch stars during third dredge-up. We nd that the extent, and even the presence, of third dredge-up depends critically on the treatment of convection within a stellar structure calculation.
