Dimers of trimers are found in the crystal structure of the pyridine adduct of a zinc porphyrin macrocycle (structure shown on the right). The analogous quinuclidine adduct does not show the interpenetration of two zinc porphyrin trimers that probably results from ππ interactions (T and stacking arrangements) between the pyrrole and pyridine rings.
