Abstract The physical adsorption of ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, butyl acetate, and amyl acetate vapors onto activated carbon was studied in this investigation. Analyses were performed with a gas chromatograph. Of prime concern was variation in breakthrough behavior for different mass rates and mesh sizes of activated carbon. The mass rates employed varied between 0.0409 mmole/min and 0.0020 mmole/min. Mesh sizes of activated carbon studied were 4-6, 8-12, 16-20, and 30-40. Also shown are results from breakthrough data correlated with mass rate for each set of conditions employed in these experiments.
