Abstract

In 1925, under the title "relapsing nonsuppurative nodular panniculitis," Weber1described an unusual clinical syndrome which was characterized by crops of subcutaneous nodules occurring during febrile periods and which on histopathologic examination was found to be accompanied by a particular type of fat atrophy. He felt that the syndrome was similar to that described by Pfeifer2in 1892 and by Gilchrist and Ketron3in 1916. More recently additional cases have been reported,4and Christian,5in one of these, properly modified the title by the addition of the word "febrile." My interest in this condition was stimulated primarily by its unusual severity in the first of the following five cases, which were seen at the Mayo Clinic. Because of the unusual features of this case the report is given in detail; in the other cases the reports are summarized. <h3>REPORT OF CASES</h3><h3>Case 1.—</h3> A single
