Summary Interference effects in the angular distribution of alpha particles from the reaction 18O(p, α) have been investigated over the range 430 to 890 kev proton energy. The experimental results have been fitted in terms of a series of overlapping levels. It is found that the levels in 19F formed by resonant capture of protons of energy 640 kev and 850 kev have spins 3/2 and 1/2 respectively, and are of opposite parity to the level which gives the main contribution to the yield away from these energies, and which has a spin of 1/2. It is a feature of this reaction that absolute parities cannot be found from the study of the angular distributions.
