Beidou is the Chinese satellite navigation system. The Beidou system became fully operational in early 2004. This paper briefly describes the constellation and mathematical model of the Beidou system. Both static and kinematical positioning tests with Beidou receivers were conducted, and the results compared with GPS data. The investigation in the paper shows that the Beidou system can provide navigation and positioning services with an accuracy of below 20 m in an area with calibration stations.
