The results of an experimental investigation of the temperature coefficient of the magnetic susceptibility of water in the temperature range from 0°–80°C are reported. The experimental accuracy of the measurements exceeds 0.02%. The equation which best fits the experimental data is presented. The variation of magnetic susceptibility with temperature is correlated with the number of hydrogen bonds calculated from two statistical thermodynamic theories of liquid water. The excellent agreement with one of the two theories allows the quantitative change of diamagnetism to be obtained for water molecules having one and two hydrogen bonds.
