Our experience in the use of a silicone foam elastomer in the dressing of granulating wounds is described in a series of 250 patients. Among the types of wound treated were a pilonidal sinus, abdominal, perianal and perineal wounds, bed sores and diabetic gangrene of the foot. The technique has marked advantages over conventional packing of wounds in relation to patient comfort and saving of nursing time in hospital, and can eliminate the need for district nursing care in the domiciliary situation. Details of preparation, application and surgical management are given.
