Broadening of the Mössbauer Line

Abstract

The thermal excitation of the solid which leads to a temperature-dependent shift of the M\"ossbauer line could conceivably cause a broadening of this line. We show here through a quantum-mechanical treatment, that for a perfect crystalline solid such a broadening does not occur.
