Abstract

An isothermal atmosphere, subject to pressure fluctuations at its base, responds very strongly at the frequency W6 = (T - t)111g/c, regardless of the horizontal scale of the exciting fluctuations. Because of a misinterpretation of a result obtained by Lamb it has previously been supposed that this response occurs at the frequency w = g/2c.
