Abstract

Pulsed magnets wound of a newly developed Cu-Ag conductor were tested. A magnetic field of 62.7 T with 2.56 ms rise time was generated in a pulsed magnet of 15 mm inner winding diameter made of 2 mm×3 mm rectangular-cross-sectional Cu-Ag alloy wire after the magnet was cooled down to 77 K. The current for this shot was supplied by a capacitor bank of 10 mF charged to 5 kV. The Cu-Ag alloy wire proved to be promising for use in multilayered pulsed magnets due to its combination of high conductivity, high strength and ease of handling.
