An induced magneto-electric effect in yttrium iron garnet

Abstract

Abstract It is shown that the symmetry of a magnetic crystal can be levered by the application of a strong electric field. In this way a magnetic crystal, which would not normally be magneto-electric, can be made to show the magneto-electric effect and this is demonstrated by some experimental measurements on yttrium iron garnet.
