MMPI results of 54 advertising men and 44 engineers were compared. Overall, the personality profiles of the groups were surprisingly similar, with marked elevations on K and Ma, lesser elevations on Hy and Pd, and a depression on Si. These patterns were believed to reflect self‐confidence, enthusiasm, ability to present oneself in a favorable light, use of repression and denial in handling psychological stresses, and an inclination to solicit social intercourse. The two groups differed significantly on seven of the scales. Advertising men showed a pronounced peak on Mf (believed related to uncommon freedom of expression and strong aesthetic interests), greater sociability, and desire for social contact.
