Abstract

When a magnetically insulated vacuum transmission line is longer than the voltage pulse (or the rising portion thereof), steady-state treatments are not adequate and some account of the time-dependent terms in Maxwell’s equations must be taken to describe the propagation of the pulse. As a first step in studying this problem, an equivalent circuit model of the line is considered. Time-dependent computer solutions are obtained and favorable comparison is made with both experiment and a recent analytic prediction for the front velocity.
