Abstract

We analyze the physics of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering particularly from the $3d$ transition-metal series. We discuss what types and with what intensity we may expect to observe various final states, by considering an array of many particle dynamical effects. We conclude with the results of an experiment on ${\mathrm{NiS}}_{1.5}{\mathrm{Se}}_{0.5}.$
