Abstract

Two cases of intracerebral hematoma associated with extravasation of contrast material in the region of the basal ganglia are presented. The angiographic finding of intracerebral extravasation of contrast material is rare. Apparently it occurs only when there is profuse active bleeding, but it is not seen when a tamponade is present. Both cases were autopsied and large destructive hematomas found. The rupture of microaneurysms in the basal ganglia appears to be the cause of the hematomas.
