A glowing endorsement: Arranging zeolite L crystals into luminescent macroscopic structures allows preparation of dense, homogeneous, well-oriented, stable, and highly organized functional monolayers (see picture). The color of the luminescence of the resulting layers can be fine-tuned by changing the type and number of lanthanide ions coordinated to the linker, the guest inside the channels of the zeolite host, and the excitation wavelength.
