Perpendicular read/write performance resulting from the narrow gap ferrite head and CoCr single-layer media vacuum-evaporated at very high deposition rate is presented. Relatively low <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Hc\perp</tex> (≃500Oe) enables the use of ferrite head operated with gap length smaller than 0.2µm without serious saturation. Used with such narrow gap head, media with Ms of 500 to 600emu/cc and Hk not notably large yield a very high linear density with D <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">50</inf> exceeding 200kfrpi. Media noise, however, increases with increasing Ms, thus there should be some optimum Ms for the best SNR.
