An apparatus for measuring the density dependence of the depolarization ratio for Ar, Kr, CH4, SF6, and C(CH3)4 at pressures around 1 atm is described. The results are compared to theoretical values based on DID theory and to results of other experimental techniques for investigating collision-induced light scattering. The discrepancy between theory and experiment for the large molecules provides further evidence of the inadequacy of the point-dipole approximation of DID theory.
