The aim of this Copenhagen facial nerve study is to explain the spontaneous course of the idiopathic facial nerve palsy without any kind of treatment. Today Bell’s palsy is the accepted term for specifying an acute monosymptomatic peripheral facial palsy of unknown etiology. Acute unilateral, and idiopathic without involvement of other peripheral nerves are specific requirements for the diagnosis.
