Abstract

Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) is of increasing interest as generator in automotive and wind applications due to its several advantages such as simple and rugged construction, high efficiency, high torque to inertia ratio, thermal robustness and economic. This paper presents simulation of SRG control for Variable Speed Wind Energy Conversion System (VS WECS). An experimental data based non-linear model of 8/6 OULTON SRG is used to study dynamic and steady state behavior for VS WECS application using Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) control as Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). DC bus voltage control across energy buffer capacitors using hysteresis band control and DC-DC converter are illustrated and the results are presented in this work. Simulation study shows 8/6 OULTON SRG potential as a valid alternative for VS WECS application.
