The following three cases are reported since they provide an opportunity for further defining the condition that has been termed primary pulmonary arteriosclerosis. It may be difficult to distinguish clinically from cardiac disease secondary to long-standing pulmonary disease. He collected 16 cases, verified at autopsy, that satisfied these criteria; but few were fully investigated, particularly in regard to the relative weight of the right and left ventricles, on which the diagnosis ultimately depends. His method has been adopted in the present study, and his series of normal ratios of the relative weights of the ventricles have provided the standard by which the degree of right ventricular hypertrophy has been assessed.
