The methods developed by Smith and his associates have made possible the separate measurement of glomerular filtration, the effec- tive renal blood flow, and the total functioning mass of tubular tissue (1). During a recent study of the effects of certain steroids on these renal functions in man, it became apparent that their determination could not always be made simultaneously since the administration of test substances for the determination of one function interfered with the determination of another. The extent and manner of this interference is the subject of the present communication.
