Thermotropic liquid crystalline compounds with lateral long‐chain substituents (II).: Synthesis and liquid crystalline properties of 1,4‐Bis [4‐substituted‐benzoyloxy]‐2‐n‐alkylbenzenes

Abstract

Abstract We synthesized 102 new 1,4‐bis‐[4‐subst.‐benzoyloxy]‐2‐n‐alkylbenzenes of the general formula magnified image with R = alkyl, alkyloxy, alkanoyloxy, alkyloxycarbonyloxy and n = 0 to 16. Surprisingly all of the new compounds are liquid crystalline nematic. Thus it is proved that lateral long chain substituents are compatible with liquid crystalline properties.
