Abstract

Three conclusions can be derived from this study: (1) structures within the oral cavity should be considered separately for toxicity scoring, (2) the newly developed tongue RTOG subscale adds accuracy and specificity to the RTOG acute toxicity scoring system, and (3) wound healing factors are an important component of understanding risk for side effects in head and neck cancer treatment.
