Study of martensitic transformation of CuZnAl alloy by coupled enthalpy and acoustic emission measurements

Abstract

Acoustic emission and transformation enthalpy are measured simultaneously on the same laboratory sample of CuZnAl alloy during the martensitic transformation. Several features bounded to the transformation kinetics are emphasized. Some differences between the direct transformation (β → M) and the reverse transformation (M → β) are shown. The effect of transformation cycling is also studied: a large change is observed during the first cycles followed by a stabilization (the transformation is therefore well reproducible). A transformation enthalpy ΔH = 6.4 J/g is measured under that conditions. Some interpretations are proposed to explain the observed experimental results. Nous avons mesuré simultanément, sup un měme échantillon d'alliage CuZnAl, l'émiesion acoustique et l'enthalpie de transformation pendant la transformation martensitique. Cela nous a permis de mettre en évidence certains aspects liésà la cinétique. Nous avons observé des différences entre les transformations directe (β → M) et inverse (M → β). Nous avons également étudié l'effet du nombre de cycles de transformation: on observe des changements importants pendant les premiers cycles suivis d'une stabilisation (la transformation est alors bien reproductible). Une enthalpie de transformation ΔH = 6.4 J/g a été mesurée dans ces conditions. Des interprétations sont proposées dans le but d'expliquer les résultats expérimentaux.
