The electronic structure of vacancies and hydrogen-trapped vacancies in aluminium are investigated using the self-consistent scattering X alpha method. The energy levels, electron density and charge distribution are obtained. The results are used to compute the lifetime of a positron in a vacancy and in a hydrogen-vacancy complex.
