Tidal Friction from Currents near the Seabed

Abstract

The current in the lowest two metres of a tidal stream has been found to increase linearly with the logarithm of the height above the bottom. Independent measurements of the shearing stress on the seabed allow a determination of von Karman's constant which was found to be approximately 0.4.
