The paper describes the development of a digital computer method for predicting the streamlines and vane surface velocities in mixed flow impellers. The flow is assumed to be axisymmetric and reversible. However, even with these simplified assumptions, it is shown by examples that valuable information can be obtained for design purposes. No attempt is made to describe computer flow diagrams or to list machine orders. The paper is concerned rather with the fundamental and practical difficulties encountered in getting the program to work and with the techniques finally devised to produce meaningful numerical results.
