This article has offered a brief overview of the most recent approaches to exploit RFID technology for ranging and locating tagged objects. Given the basic ideas reported in [1]-[3], we have focused on the most recent solutions addressing context-aware applications and the paradigm of ambient intelligence. These contexts are based on the ubiquitous presence of objects carrying some intelligence to be exchanged with the surrounding objects and environments in real time. For this reason, locating and discovering objects is a challenging aspect for the effective exploitation of RFID-based localization techniques.
