Abstract The diamagnetic susceptibilities of benzamide, methylbenzamides, and hydroxybenzamides have been accurately measured. From these measurements and the calculated values of the in-plane susceptibilities, the semi-experimental anisotropies have been obtained. The magnetic data are correlated with the arrangement of these molecules in the crystals.
