HL–A antigens were determined by the microlymphocytotoxicity test in patients treated with chloramphenicol and compared with appropriate controls. A reversible loss of antigenicity was found to be associated with chloramphenicol treatment. Possible mechanisms of action and clinical implications are discussed.
