Catalytic and direct methyl sulfonylation of alkenes and alkynes using a methyl sulfonyl radical generated from a DMSO, dioxygen and copper system

Abstract

A methyl sulfonyl radical generated from DMSO in the presence of catalytic Cu(<sc>i</sc>) under O₂atmosphere is used to carry out methyl sulfonation of C–C unsaturated bonds to afford β-keto methyl sulfones and (<italic>E</italic>)-vinyl methyl sulfones.
