Creep of polycrystalline zinc was found to be controlled by two thermally activated mechanisms acting in parallel with activation energies of: Q 1 = 23·2 and Q 2 = 36·3 kcal/mole. Corresponding stress dependencies are according to [sgrave] n with n 1 = 4·7 and n 2=4·0. Regions of constant energy indicative of predominant control by one mechanism are separated by a transition region where neither mechanism is rate controlling. The reciprocal mean temperature, where each mechanism contributes equally to the observed creep rate, is related to the applied stress by This work has been sponsored by the Division of Industrial Research, Institute of Technology, Washington State University.
