A new type of chromoionophore, mono(indoaniline)-derived calix[6]arene 1, has been synthesized, which shows a selective UO22+ ion-induced pronounced colour change (wavelength change ca. 60 nm) with increasing absorption intensity in 99% EtOH at 25 °C, making it of potential use as an optical sensor for UO22+ detection.
