Within the next five years, improvement in survival rates in those women with breast cancer should become apparent. This objective, aided by projects sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, will probably be attained through early detection and treatment. This book presents the edited version of 49 contributors to the 14th Annual Breast Cancer conference. Divided into five sections, the book offers both guidelines in detection of early breast cancer and results of management. The two most rewarding sections are "Detecting Asymptomatic Breast Cancer" and "Management of Early Breast Cancer." Concepts and methodologies such as specimen radiography, mammography and physical examination screening of both asymptomatic and "high-risk" women, team approaches in management, and implementation of screening programs are well presented. The reader will find that in some aspects of mammography, technical factors are discussed but not in sufficient detail. This may well relate to the evolving
