Abstract Alkylated ferrocene sulfonate compounds, 1,1′‐dimethyl ferrocene sulfonate, t ‐butyl ferrocene sulfonate, ethyl ferrocene sulfonate, and n ‐butyl ferrocene sulfonate are explored for the electrocatalytic detection of sulfide at a boron‐doped diamond electrode. Voltammetric interrogation of the ferrocene sulfonate compounds is investigated to determine oxidizing potentials, diffusion coefficients and responses towards sulfide. In the latter case, measurement of the electrocatalytic rate constants by means of chronoamperometry indicates a high electrocatalytic activity (ca. 10 3 M −1 s −1 ) towards sulfide.
