Summary 1. Haematological studies on 100 Thoroughbred and 174 Standardbred horses are reported. 2. Significant differences in the blood values of the two breeds are described. 3. Criteria for the interpretation of blood counts in racehorses are suggested. 4. Possible factors in the etiology of equine polycythaemia and anaemia are discussed. 5. It is noted that good racehorses tend to have better blood pictures than moderate performers.
