Ultrasmall w/IL emulsions: The formation of water/ionic liquid (w/IL) microemulsions is demonstrated by using the zwitterionic surfactant (SB-12) in the presence of ethanol (see figure). Ethanol increases the uptake of both water and SB-12 within the ILs initiating the formation of w/IL microemulsions.
