Elimination of Complex Ions in Fluoride Glasses by NF₃ Processing

Abstract

The influence of complex ions (NH 4 + , CO 3 2- , NO 3 - , SO 4 2- and PO 4 3- ) in fluoride glasses on absorption loss is investigated. To remove these ions, reactive atmosphere processing with NF 3 has been applied. NH 4 + , CO 3 2- , NO 3 - and SO 4 2- are effectively eliminated by the NF 3 processing.
