The non-centrosymmetric structure of fl-naphthol has been determined with the aid of optical transforms and refined by two-dimensional Fourier methods.Every molecule is attached by hydrogen bonds to two neighbours, and in this way the molecules are linked into chains; adjacent molecules in any chain are crystallogwaphically non-equivalent.Each chain runs throughout the crystal with its length parallel to the a axis of the monoclinic unit-cell.
