Abstract Cell suspensions of Chlorella pyrenoidosa were exposed on batch culture condition to different concentrations of Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc ions. The results show that Cu and Cd are toxic to Chlorella, while Zn acts antagonistically to toxic action of Cu and Cd. SDS‐PAGE analysis reveal that Zn significantly induced photosynthetic subunits whereas Cu and Cd were found to be inhibitory to the photosynthetic subunits and to non homeostatically induce low molecular weight proteins.
