Interferometric Positions of the Water-Vapor Emission Sources in H II Regions

Abstract

An interferometer has been constructed to operate at wavelengths as short as 1 cm. We have measured the positions of sources of strong water-vapor emission in the H II regions W3, W49, W51, and Orion A. The water sources lie close to, but not always coincident with, the OH and other molecular sources and infrared objects. In some cases the water sources are clearly separated from the compact H II regions.
