SUMMARY Sixty‐four patients undergoing cystectomy and diversion for carcinoma of the bladder are reported. Construction of a rectal bladder and left iliac colostomy was the means of diversion. The post‐operative mortality was 17‐1 per cent. and there were 28 complications in 17 patients. Follow‐up studies including pyelography, blood chemistry, proctography and proctometry showed this procedure to have many of the features of an ideal diversion and this method is recommended.
