Abstract

Ion—molecule reactions in gaseous ammonia have been studied up to 0.065 Torr in the ion source of the mass spectrometer. Besides the primary ions NH3+, NH2+, NH+, N+, the following secondary ions NH4+, N2H5+, N2H4+, N2H3+, N2H2+, and N2H+ have been observed. Appearance-potential data and pressure-dependence studies have allowed the parent—daughter relationship and the cross sections of the pertinent reactions to be determined.
