Abstract

Measurements of the 181 Ta and 93 Nb spin-lattice relaxation time T 1 at low temperatures are reported for the 2H polytypes of TaS 2 and NbS 2 and their pyridine intercalation compounds. An analysis of T 1 T shows that, on the intercalation of pyridine molecules, the density of states at Fermi level N ( E F ) increases about 30% for 2H–TaS 2 , while decreases about 30% for 2H–NbS 2 . This is suggestive of charge transfer from pyridine molecules to d z 2 conduction band of the disulfides.
