Abstract

The first volume of the book entitledElectrolytes and Cardiovascular Diseasecontains interesting information. From the onset it is unclear, however, for which audience this volume was compiled. Certainly it is not intended for the practicing physician, as stated in the introduction. There is too much detail in many chapters, especially on methodology. Actually it is a bound collection of papers rather than a book with a uniform theme. It is written in styles which vary from reviews to stereotype presentations of experimental material. This approach to the publishing of medical books, so frequently encountered today, leaves the reader somewhat at a loss. From the title, one would expect a review of the subject matter, but the conglomeration of articles will benefit the noninitiated reader only after considerable homework.
