Abstract

Changes in the work function of the surface of single-crystal Fe(110) due to carbon-monoxide (CO) adsorption have been studied as a function of CO exposure. The work function increased by 0.425 eV for Fe surface covered with saturated CO. The changes in the work function originating from different adsorbed states of CO are discussed in conjunction with the thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and Auger analysis.
