Abstract

A chiral nonlinear-optical material, l-N-(5-nitro-2-pyridyl)leucinol, has been developed and grown into a single crystal as large as 18 mm × 16 mm × 9 mm by using the seeded slow-cooling solution method. The crystal structure and the linear- and nonlinear-optical properties are characterized. Angle-tuned type I and type II phase-matched second-harmonic generation at 1.064 μm is demonstrated with effective nonlinear coefficients of 37 and 3 pm/V, respectively.
